Challenge To Our Constitution

In 1787, delegations from twelve states convened and agreed upon the document known as the United States Constitution. Rhode Island was the only state not represented during this process. In 1788, New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution, thereby making this document the law of the land.

The Constitution has withstood the test of time and remains the most important legal document ever devised by man.

The Constitution, approximately 2500 words in length, lays the foundation by which our form of government operates.

After serving this nation for over two hundred years, the Constitution has come under vicious attacks from both the current regime in Washington D. C., and well meaning "patriots". The attacks, made by government officials, generally speak of the changing world around us and how we can no longer expect the government to function under such rigid constraints as put forth by the "antiquated" Constitution. They insist that current events force our nation to choose between "liberties" and "security". They truly have no understanding of the Constitution, or the patriots who authored it.

It should be apparent to anyone with any sense at all that the framers of our Constitution did not grant us the "liberties" that are written therein, they only wrote that these unalienable rights were guaranteed by the Constitution. These rights, including those guaranteed in the "Bill of Rights", were known to be inherent rights endowed upon us by our Creator.

The Bush regime, along with the Ministry of Propaganda (media), has told us over and over that we must give up our freedom for security. When you couple this with what the president said about the reason that they ( the "terrorists") attacked us, "because they hate our freedoms!", you can see that, contrary to what many have said, the president has a clear plan to protect American citizens. His plan is simple, take away American freedom and there is no longer any reason for the terrorists to attack us.

Under our current situation, America is being governed more as a dictatorship than as a Republic. Our Constitution states that our government shall be made up of three branches as a means of "checks and balances". While the president has usurped powers, constitutionally delegated to the legislative and judicial branches, and placed them under executive authority, Congress and the Courts have done little, if anything, to check his power grab.

Each new shocking revelation of abuse of power by Bush brings out the usual chest thumping and blustering by members of Congress, like Arlen Spector...you remember, he was the one who came up with the "Magic Bullet" theory in the JFK assassination, but, to date, not one has stood their ground and said, "No more, Mr. President". Quite to the contrary, after a few days of whining, they seem ready to appease the president, and actually sound apologetic that they ever questioned his rule.

Pre-emptive "conflicts" ( Congress, and Congress alone has the authority to declare "war" according to the Constitution Article I Section 8), not once, but twice...so far! Making treaties, such as the "Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement" ( treaty) the president signed with Canada and Mexico on March 23, 2005 ( the president of the United States has been granted the authority to make treaties, providing two thirds of the Senate concur, according to the Constitution Article II Section 2)! With utter disregard to law, and in direct violation of the Constitution's "Bill of Rights" ( chiefly, Amendments 1, 4, and 5) the president has authorized different executive departments, including the NSA, FBI, and DHS, to spy on America's citizens! The president, and Congress, have done nothing to stop the illegal invasion of our southern border  in violation of Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution which states "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

Of the first ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, only one, the third amendment, has not been violated or attacked during this administration...to date!

This president has lied to Congress and misled the American people. He continues, with reckless abandon, in his quest for dictatorial power. Our Congress, specifically the House of Representatives, has failed to hold him accountable and has violated their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution by not starting an investigation into impeachable offenses. By ignoring their responsibility, and abdicating their Constitutional authority, Congress has given the president the "green light" to end our Constitutional Republic. With each subsequent election, EVERY incumbent should be replaced with individuals who will take their oath of office seriously!

As if the violent attack on the Constitution from our government officials were not enough, I am constantly hearing from "patriots" about the need to re-write our laws. Although well meaning, these individuals seem unable to understand that there is nothing wrong with our Constitution.

The problem is in the application. I will clarify this statement using a simplistic approach. A stop sign has eight sides (octagon) and is red with big white S-T-O-P letters and a white border. Typically, this sign is used at intersections to assist in minimizing the risk of an accident. If individuals disregard this stop sign or willfully ignore its directive, the ensuing accident isn't the stop sign's fault, nor should we think that changing the shape or color of the stop sign will rectify the problem. The problem is not with the stop sign, but with the individuals who are supposed to obey the law!!!

Our Constitution is under attack. It is our responsibility, as American citizens, to protect and defend this grand document against enemies, both foreign and domestic. If you refuse to become informed and to act, thinking that you will let someone else do it, you will have only yourself to blame when you no longer recognize "the land of the free". It is time to become involved. What are you waiting for? LETS ROLL!
